Bigelow's Monkeyflower

picture of a bigalow's monkeyflower

There are close to one hundred monkeyflowers native to at least one state in the United States, except perhaps Hawaii.

Bigelow's Monkeyflower (Mimulus bigelovii) is a native wildflower of the desert Southwest, and a member of the Figwort Family (Scrophulariaceae).

It is related to other flowers such as the foxglove and Indian Paintbrush.

They are a purple tubular flower, painted with yellow inside the tube, and found on sandy desert floors.

There are few indications that the Bigelow's Monkeyflower is a popular edible. When in doubt, leave it out of your salads.
