Creosote Bush

The Creosote Bush (Larrea tridentata) is a member of the Caltrop Family (Zygophyllaceae), found in the Southwest from Texas, west to California.

The small yellow flowers bloom annually in spring and the bush retains its leaves throughout the year.

It is a drought resistant bush (like the chuparosa), making it a good landscaping choice for homeowners interested in native plants.

While there are folk tales regarding the medicinal uses of creosote, the Center for Disease Control CDC warns, "Taking herbal remedies containing creosote bush leaves may result in damage to the liver or kidney."
