Redstem Filaree

picture of a red-stemmed filaree flower

Redstem Filaree (Erodium cicutarium) is a member of the geranium family (Geraniaceae) and a native European plant.

It is a broadleaf plant found throughout most of the United States that produces a purple shaded flower.

For homeowners who consider the plant an unwanted guest in their lawns or gardens, removal can be as easy as pulling up the roots when the soil is moist and loose.

Farmers consider the plant an agriculture pest because of its ability to overtake large areas of land, thereby reducing crop productivity.
