Hairy Bittercress

picture of a bittercress flower

Hairy Bittercress (Cardamine hirsuta) is a member of the Mustard family, (Brassicaceae) with a presence across much of the United States.

It is a native European plant that grows well in temperate areas suitable for grasses, making it a common visitor to many homes and gardens.

Often it is more recognized by its long, thin stems rather than its flowers. The flowers are tiny and the picture shows them enlarged by at least a factor of three.

The plant is considered more of a nuisance than an invasive species, and pulling the roots is the customary removal advice.
