White-faced Ibis

The White-faced Ibis is an uncommon migrant to much of the United States. Small populations breed in South Texas and in a couple of places in the Northwest. The picture does not show the white face. It is much more apparant during breeding season.
They prefer freshwater habitats such as marshes and ponds for breeding. These areas generally provide them with a variety of food choices and their diet varies accordingly.
They are medium sized wading birds, about two feet tall, with long bills that curve downward. They are also very shy birds and it is very difficult to get even as close as forty feet to them without their flying off.
