Sphex habenus

picture of sphex habenus, a thread-waisted wasp

Sphex Habernus is one of a handful of Sphex species in the larger thread-waisted wasp family, Sphecidae.

The gold marks on the face and otherwise dark body and legs are distinctive of the species.

They are inhabitants of the sandy soils and fields of the Southeast, where they build their ground nests.
