Polistes aurifer, also known as a Golden Paper Wasp, is a native West Coast paper wasp species.

It bears more than a few visible similarities with the Rocky Mountain and Midwest species, Polistes fuscatus, the Northern Paper Wasp.

Unlike the majority of paper wasp species, a recent study showed that P. aurifer was amenable to building ground nests.
