Poecilopompilus algidus

picture of Poecilopompilus algidus, a spider wasp species

Poecilopompilus algidus, a large and colorful spider wasp species, has a range that extends throughout much of the Americas. The United States population is centered along the southern border, although some records show small populations in the upper-Midwest and New England.

The picture shows a female near a spot of sandy soil where the burrow is being built.
