Mexican Honey Wasp

picture of a mexican honey wasp

The existence of the Mexican Honey Wasp (Brachygastra mellifica) proves that some of what we learn in grade school needs to be amended over time.

While most students learn that bees make honey, not wasps, the Mexican Honey Wasp proves to be the exception to the rule.

Brachygastra are primarily neotropical wasp species, however, the Mexican Honey Wasp extends its range into Southern Texas and possibly Arizona.

Like other paper wasps, they also build paper nests.
