Braconid Wasps

picture of a braconid wasp

Braconid Wasps (Family Braconidae), one of many parasitic wasp families, belong to the same superfamily as the Ichneumon Wasps.

The easiest way to identify any one of the 1,700 different North American species is to look for a small wasp (1/8 to 5/8 inches) with a thin body, long antennae and long oviposter. It's usually the female.

Organic gardeners as well as larger scale farmers rely on braconid species to provide natural biological controls against pests such as aphids, cabbage and tomato worms in check.
