Bombus sylvicola

picture of a Bombus sylvicola bumblebee

Two Western North American bombus species, Bombus sylvicola and Bombus huntii, share a very similar body color pattern.

The throax has cream to yellow hairs, along with a black band running between the wings.

A top down pattern of cream to red to cream to black hairs characterizes the abdomen.

Bombus sylvicola can be differentiated by the presence of a "V" pattern on the bottom of the black, thorasic band. Additionally it is characterized as a high altitude species.
