The picture shows a brightly colored male Bombus mixtus, with yellow hair on the thorax and an abdomen that ends with reddish hair.
It was relatively small in size, less than one inch, and resting on a blackberry leave, waiting for the sun to warm its wings.
They are native to the Pacific Northwest.
