Bombus flavifrons

picture of a bumblebee species, bombus flavifrons

The black and yellow striped pattern on the bottom of the abdomon of the bumblee in the top picture is a common pattern for a handful of bumblebee species.

Bombus flavifrons is the dominant West Coast species with the pattern. In some individuals, the yellow color of hairs is very pronounced.

The Confusing Bumblebee (Bombus perplexus) is a similar looking species with a wide spread presence in New England, the Northeast and Upper Midwest.
