The Gulf Coast Box Turtle (Terrapene carolina major) is the largest box turtle in the United States. Like the others, it has a hinged plastron, enabling them to draw their bodies into their shells when threatened.

The Gulf Coast box turtle is found in open areas such as meadows, along the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas.

Their diet consists of both animal and plant matter.

They are popular pets.
