Cattleheart Butterflies

Cattleheart butterflies are members of the Swallowtail butterfly family (Papilionidae), found from the southern borders of Texas and Arizona, south to South America.

Many, but not all, of the species lack the characteristic long tails of swallowtail butterflies found in the United States.

Generally species in the group are are easily recognized by their black wings adorned with red, pink and white spots.

The top picture shows a red cagttleheart species. The bottom picture shows a pink cattleheart species.
