Southern Skipperling

picture of a Southern Skipperling

Grass skippers tend to rank at the small end of the butterfly scale and the Southern Skipperling (Copaeodes minimus) ranks as the smallest of the grass skippers.

It's a resident of the Southeast and Texas, in bermudagrass areas, the caterpillar's host grass.

The white stripes on orange wing makes it among the easiest of skippers to identify. The top side of the wings shaw a similar orange color, surrounded by a thin, darker border.
