Brown-banded Skipper

picture of a brown-banded checkered-skipper

The Brown-banded Skippper (Timochares ruptifasciata), is the only member of the Timochares genus found in the United States.

It can be found in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas, mostly in areas where the food plant for the caterpillar, the Barbados Cherry, grows. It is considered a rare stray into Southern Arizona.

The hind wings are generally lighter than the forewings, and bands are visible on both sets of wings.
