Sixspotted Orbweaver

picture of a sixspotted orbweaver

The Sixspotted Orbweaver (Araniella displicata), a small spider, is the sole representative of the Araniella genus in the United States.

While the color ranges from the orange of the specimen in the top picture, to shades of red, yellow and brown, the presence of six spots on the abdomen are indicative of the species.

Their habitat extends across much of the northern tier of the United States, and their webs are built on small bushes and shrubs in a variety of field, forest and wetlands settings.
