The Paintbrush Lily (Scadoxus Puniceus) belongs to a genus of flowers in the family Amaryllidaceae (not the true lily family).
While its tropical roots translate into a limited outdoor garden range in the United Sates, Scadoxus are considered shade tolerant plants.
Given proper heat and humidity conditions, they generally do well as indoor flowering plants.
The flowers are large and showy. The picture was taken indoors, under low light conditions, using a flash. The black background was enhanced to provide a contrast with the flower head.
