Cape Honeysuckle

picture of cape honeysuckle flowers

Cape Honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis), belongs to the bignonia family (Bignoniaceae), a tropical family of woody plants that also go by the name Trumpet Creepers.

It thrives in tropical climates, and therefore has a limited range for use as a garden ornamental in the United States.

The bright orange flowers attract hummingbirds, making them welcome additions in southern gardens.

Like native honeysuckle bushes, given good growing conditions, they tend to multiply and extend their growing area. Occasional shrub maintenance is recommended to deter its taking over an entire section of yard.
