Calla Lily

picture of a calla lily flower

The Calla lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica) is a very popular perennial grown around the United States.

It's a warm weather plant, generally recommended for gardens in zones 8-10. In cooler climates, most experts recommend digging up the bulbs after the growing season and storing them for replanting after the last frost of the next growing season.

Undoubtedly, the large single flower often accounts for the plant's popularity.

The picture shows the Hercules Calla the largest of the calla species commonly grown in the United States.

It produces the white flowers. Other species of callas produce flowers in a rainbow of colors.

Calla lilies generally grow without much effort in well drained soil that receives sunlight.
