Valley Garter Snake

close-up of a vallery garter snake

The Valley Garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis fitchi) is one of a handful of T. sirtalis subspecies.

The light cream or white color to the lower jaw, folowed sometimes with a reddish spot on the neck are good field identification clues.

Without seeing the lower portion of the jaw, the Valley garter might be mistaken for other dark headed garter snakes.
