Prairie Dogs

prairie dog picture

Prairie Dogs are members of the Family: Scuridae, the same family as squirrels.

They are new world rodents common in Mid-west states.

All prairie dogs are ground dwellers that live in underground burrows. They are also social animals, living in small groups and subsisting on the plant life in one or two acre territories. Some species occasionally eat insects.

Like squirrels, prairie dogs are sometimes considered pests when their territory overlaps agriculture interests.
