Mandrill

mandrill picture

Mandrills (Mandrillus sphinx), one of two Mandrillus species, are old world monkeys that reside in tropical rain forests along the Atlantic Coast of Central Africa.

Like other old world Monkeys of Africa, they are omnivores with a varied diet of fruit, nuts and small animals.

Mandrills are related to the baboon and they are known for their colorful faces.

While current population levels are estimates, the IUCN considered them vulnerable in their range, due to both habitat destruction and their popularity as bush game.
