Lemurs are a group of primates in the prosimian suborder. The suborder has the longest evolutionary history of all the primates. The above picture of a ring-tailed lemur shows the large eyes on narrow skull that physically differentiates them from other primates.

Lemurs are only found in Madagascar, an island on the Southeast coast of Africa. Madagascar has a diverse geography and the different species adapted to their geographical environment. Most are forest dwellers and all the species, some only recently discovered, are considered endangered because of habitat loss.
