Bamboo Lemur

picture of a lesser Bamboo Lemur

Five different bamboo lemur species have been identified in Madagascar.

All of them get their name based on their dietary preferences, bamboo, and they can be found across the island in forests that support bamboo.

The IUCN lists one species, the Greater Bamboo Lemur (Prolemur simus), as critically endangered. It is considered the most endangered of all of Madagascar's lemurs, with population estimates below one hundred individuals.
