The Alaotran Gentle Lemur (Hapalemur alaotrensis) goes by a few names. The formal name, Alaotra, stands for the lake area they inhabit.

Because of their limited range, and continued development around the lake, the IUCN lists them as a critically endangered species.

They are diurnal and feed on the reeds and grasses that grow around the lake.
