Lyside Sulphur

picture of a Lyside Sulphur butterfly

The Lyside Sulphur (Kricogonia lyside) is the sole representative of the Kricogonia genus in the United States.

It's a neotropical species with a fairly large population in the Southwest and Texas, and an occasional population in the lower Midwest.

The top picture shows a side view, the butterfly's usual pose. The wings are devoid of a pattern, and there is normally a shade of green on the underside of the wing.

A hint of the yellow coloration on the top side of the wings is also shown.
