Fox Sparrow

fox sparrow picture

The Fox Sparrow is often characterized as a larger than average sparrow.

There are four versions of the fox sparrow that combine a mix of brown to grey feathers on the top and face and dark streaks on a pale breast. The bill is a good field identification mark. It is short and round with yellow on the lower part.

They breed in the Western United States, as far north as Canada. They winter in many southern areas, and migration means that they at least make a visit to most area of the United States.

Fox sparrows are happy to visit most back yard feeders.
