Short-billed Dowitcher

picture of a Short-billed Dowitcher

The Short-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus griseus) usually gets described in comparative terms with the Long-billed Dowitcher.

It's a bit smaller, with a smaller bill and duller colors. Without seeing the two species together, differentiation one from the other, especially in non-breeding season can be difficult.

The breed just below the Arctic Circle in North America and winter along both coastlines. Unlike the Long-billed Dowitcher, they tend to spend more time along coastal salt water and brackish water habitats.
