Lesser Black-baked Gull

picture of a Lesser Black-gacked Gull

Known as a European gull species, the Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus) continues to increase its presence throughout the Eastern United States.

To date, the U.S. population is categorized as the summering population of birds that breed either in Iceland or Greenland. Only a couple of U.S. breeding occurrences have been recorded.

The yellow legs, yellow bill with red spot and dark feathers on the back distinguish it from other area gulls.
