Grasshoppers are insects in the Acrididae family. There are hundreds of different grasshopper species, with some very destructive to crops.

Most people think brown or green when they think grasshopper. That is only a partially correct fact. They come in a variety of colors and shades. The Painted Grasshopper, for example, has orange or red spots with yellow or white stripes.

As the name suggests, grasshoppers are excellent jumpers. They can also fly, which provides them with the mobility to easily move from one feeding area to the next.
