Sahalie Falls and Coosah Falls

picture of a rainbow at Koosah waterfallSahalie and Coosah falls often make it to the must see list of travelers visiting the McKenzie river recreation area in central Oregon.

They are located directly off Hwy 126. Coming from the Eugene area, drive about eighteen miles past McKenzie Bridge.

Signs for both falls are easily spotted with free parking at both the Sahalie and Coosah lots.

No matter which parking spot you choose, you can easily walk a well maintained trail connecting both falls.

Rainbow falls might also be appropriate names for the falls, because they can pop up regularly, depending on the time of day and the angle of the sun.

The trail parallels the McKenzie river and offers great views of the rapids.

The American Dipper, an aquatic song bird, can often be seen either standing along the banks or swimming in the shallow parts of the river.

A variety of wildlife and plant life also call the area around the trail home. Depending on the season, keep your eyes open for dragonflies, mushrooms, snakes and squirrels.

Following the trail past Sahalie and Coosah falls takes you to Carmen Reservoir and an open space area suitable for more hiking and picnicking.
