Oregon Waterfalls

picture of a waterfall near the top of Mount Hood

Waterfalls are always a popular travel destination, and Oregon waterfalls are no exception.

Multnomah Falls, located just east of Portland, on the Columbia River Gorge, is often touted as Oregon's top tourist attraction.

With literally hundreds of waterfalls located throughout Oregon, Multnomah Falls should be considered as the first among Oregon waterfall equals.

Climate and geography explain the area's waterfall extravaganza. Without going into the geological formation of the mountains, it is sufficient to note that water coupled with a place to fall, constitute the basic waterfall recipe. Oregon's legendary annual rainfall and mountains make for perfect waterfall conditions.

The top picture shows a waterfall near the top of Mount Hood. During the summer, snow melt provides a water source for many small waterfall formations along the sides of the mountain.

This album presents a small sample of both tourist popular and out of the way Oregon waterfalls. Multnomah Falls, Silver Falls State Park and Sahalie and Koosah Falls are popular attractions located in and around the Willamette valley, the state's population center.

Shellburg Falls, Sweet Creek Falls and Tidbits Falls are more out of the way falls with charms of their own.
