Empress Leilia Butterfly

picture of a Tawny Emperor butterfly

The Tawny Emperor (Asterocampa clyton) is one of two common emperor butterflies in the United States, with a range extending throughout much of the Midwest and East.

It's a lighter color emperor compared to the other common Hackberry Emperor. The white spots on the forewing also differentiate it form the Hackberry.

Caterpillars feed on leaves of elm tree.
