Rosita Patch

A resident of the Lower Rio Grande Valley conveyed to me it took him five years to see his first Rosita Patch (Chlosyne rosita). It's a tropical species that occasionally visits the area.

The top picture shows a close similarity with the Crimson Patch, black wings with an orange to reddish patch on the hindwing.

The side view, pictured below, provides another very good field identification clue. The yellowish patch on the hindwing lacks the dark spots that are present in the Crimson Patch.
