Common Mestra

picture of a Common Mestra butterfly

The Common Mestra (Mestra amymone) is the only Mestra representative found in the United States, with a range from South Texas and Arizona, occasionally migrating north to the lower Midwest states.

An average sized butterfly, with a very distinct orange patch on the bottom of the wings makes it difficult to misidentify.

The underside of the wings, not pictures, show a reverse color order, orange with white patterns.
