Fireworks Photography Tips

picture of fireworks

Photographing fireworks is a great way to get started with night photography.

Many digital cameras come with a preset fireworks mode. Getting a picture is almost as easy as point and click.

Shutter speed mode is the appropriate setting for cameras without a preset fireworks mode. Light emanating from fireworks is often sufficient for getting nice pictures with the shutter speed set anywhere between 1/500 and 1/1000.

As long as you have a view clear of obstructions such as telephone wires or trees, a typical fireworks show can provide hundreds of photo opportunities for experimenting with shutter speed settings. Slower shutter speed settings are often used to show motion.
