Tucson Mountains

picture of the Tucson Mountains in the Saguaro National Park

The Tucson Mountains form a natural western border for the city of Tucson, AZ.

Geologically, the mountains are remnants of old volcanoes, consisting of "rhyolite, ash deposits (tuff) and brechia".

The picture was taken at sunset, with the last of the day's light adding a hint of red to the mountain's otherwise brown, sandy soil.

Faint signs of the saguaro cacti dotting the mountain are present.
