Mountain Owl's Clover

picture of a mountain owl's clover flower

Owl's-clover is the common name given to to a small genus (Orthocarpus) of flowering plants in the figwort family.

The name may be a bit misleading because the plant does not belong to the Trifolium genus, of the pea family, whose species are more commonly associated with the name clover.

Owl's Clover are primarily Western plants that come in shades of purple, pink, white and yellow.

The Mountain Owl's Clover can be found in high elevation areas along the West Coast.

The plants grow low to the ground and the picture shows the characteristic purplish bracts shaded with small bits of yellow and white.
