The Polka Dot Wasp Moth (Syntomeida epilais) is a member of the subfamily of Syntomine Moths (Syntominae), also called wasp moths.
One look at the light dots on the dark body and wings explains the name.
It is a day flier that nectars on a variety of flowers in the coastal areas of the Southeast and the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
The caterpillars feed on plants in the oleander family.
