picture of a bottlenose dolphin

There are about thirty different dolphins in the family Delphinidae.

The Bottlenose dolphin in the picture is named for its long slim nose. The presence of teeth also places them in the toothed whale category.

Bottlenose dolphins are found in warmer waters around the world. They interact well with humans and are often found along coastal residential areas north and south of the equator in their warm water habitat.

Most people recognize them as the dolphins of television and theme park fame.
