Western Pine Elfin

picture of a Western Pine Elfin butterfly

The Western Pine Elfin (Callophrys eryphon) is a very nice looking and tailess member of the Hairstreaks.

The caterpillars feed on a variety of pine tree needles, hence the name.

They are one of the first species to appear during the spring in pine forests throughout the Western United States.
