Tailed Copper Butterfly

Copper Butterflies (Lycaeninae) Edith's Copper Lilac-bordered Copper Mariposa Copper Purplish Copper Blues Hairstreaks Butterfly Pictures and Information

The Tailed Copper (Lycaena arota) sounds and looks like a cross between a hairstreak and copper butterfly.

The picture shows the contrasting orange(top) and gray (bottom) wings with an orangish zig-zag mark on the bottom wing near the tail. Females usually have a more prounced orange color on the top wing.

They are a common species in the West, with the exception of the northern most and desert areas.
