Silver-banded Hairstreak

picture of a Silver-banded Hairstreak butterfly

The less than perfect picture at the top of the page shows the very nice looking Silver-banded Hairstreak (Chlorostrymon simaethis).

The underside of the wings are green with a silver or whitish band.

The butterfly has a stable population in South Texas, with smaller, scattered populations in Southern Arizona and Southern California.

These areas host the caterpillar food plant, the Baloonvine (Cardiospermum L.) in the Soapberry family.
