Tiger Whiptail

picture of a tiger whiptail lizard

With the exception of the coastal and humid Pacific Northwest along with high mountain areas, the Tiger Whiptail or Western Whiptail (Aspidoscelis tigris) inhabits a variety of ecosystems within its Western Range. A handful of regionally specific subspecies have been identified.

The picture shows a juvenile Tiger Whiptail with the stripes on the back, spots on the side and a lightly blue tail. Upon maturation the stripes and blue tail fade, leaving the adult mostly spotted.
