Rosebelly Lizard

picture of a rosebelly lizard

The Rosebelly Lizard (Sceloporus variabilis) is a southern Sceloporus species found in South Texas and Northern Mexico.

Like most of the Sceloporus, is can often be found on branches, fences, rocks or sunny patches of ground, basking in the sun.

The light stripe down the side and darker stripe down the middle of the body are common field identification marks. Males have rose colored patches on the belly.

Because they are a Southern species, they can be found with regularity throughout the year.
