There are thirty-one documented agama species that live in a variety of desert, forest and grassland habitats.
The colorful males make them a popular group in the reptile pet trade.
The Red-headed Agama (agama agama) in the top picture is not only a colorful lizard, but also a very adaptable lizard, found across much of Sub-saharan Africa in rocky areas, grasslands and residential areas.
Small colonies of Agama have been reported living in the wild in Southern Florida.
