Red-headed Agama

picture of a red-headed agama lizard

Agamas are a genus of lizards found across the African continent.

There are thirty-one documented agama species that live in a variety of desert, forest and grassland habitats.

The colorful males make them a popular group in the reptile pet trade.

The Red-headed Agama (agama agama) in the top picture is not only a colorful lizard, but also a very adaptable lizard, found across much of Sub-saharan Africa in rocky areas, grasslands and residential areas.

Small colonies of Agama have been reported living in the wild in Southern Florida.
