The slim, lime green look of the Green Anole (Anolis carolinensis) makes it a relatively easy native lizard to identify.

There are literally hundreds of Anole species (members of the Anolis genus) found in tropical areas of the Caribbean, Central and South America. The Green Anole is the only native U.S. species.

Green Anoles can be found in a variety of habitats in the Southern United States, including back yards and forests.

Finding one, or a pair, in the backyard should be considered a sign of good fortune. They are considered beneficial lizards, helping keep the yard clean by hunting bugs during their usual day time outings.

Anoles are a common reptile in the pet trade.

Having a pair set up a home in the backyard is the preferred way of adopting them as natural pets. Keeping the yard free of pesticide use is the best first step for insuring an anole friendly yard.
