There are different species, however, all are characterized as rock lizards of the Southwestern United States (i.e., they live among rocks rather than trees).
The above picture shows a rather drab looking Chuckwalla. The lack of coloration is most likely an artifact of the environment. Like most lizards, they have the ability to change color to adapt to environmental conditions.
Unlike many lizards, Chuckwallas are primarily herbivores. Their diet consists of flowers and plants.
